D-Barb has recently been featured in the
magazine "In-Fisherman". Here is an excerpt from that article.
"Research
shows that it's better to remove hooks from deeply hooked fish than to leave
hooks blocking a fish's gullet. Barbed hooks are difficult to back out and
remove without damaging the fish, reducing the chance of long term survival.
Cutting off barbs makes hook reversal and removal much easier and less
damaging. Until recently, though, most cutting tools were too bulky and dull
to accomplish this task, particularly for fish with small mouths.

The D-Barb Fish Medic tool does the job. It's narrow profile allows easy entry
through the mouths of small adult bass and other fish, and ultrasharp and hard
cobalt blades cut through even large, heavy-gauge hooks. Small hooks are easy
to cut, and 5/0 and 6/0 hooks with dense shanks and large barbs cut when the
tool is rotated so that big barbs don't limit closure of the blades. A small
magnet captures the severed points. Anglers using barbed hooks who want tio
release the fish in healthy condition need this tool. It is carried by Bass
